Heat Device/Hot Roll
The application of heat in the form of red light, hot roll or Fango is used to prepare for or support the techniques applied in the physical therapy session. Heat is applied in order to achieve an overall calming effect, to relax the muscles, reduce pain, increase blood flow and improve stretching ability.
Heat in the form of hot air can be applied indirectly by using infrared light. The patient is placed under the infrared light and the heat generated by the light radiates onto the patient.
The hot roll consists of several tightly rolled up towels which are saturated with hot water. By unrolling the towels slowly the therapist applies warmth directly onto the patient.
The application of heat supplements physical therapy and is prescribed by a physician.
